How To Play

---UNDER CONSTRUCTION---

Important note from the author:
As you can see below, I have already uploaded parts 1-8 of 11 chapters in total. However, there has been some discussion at headquarters about the goal of this blog, and we have decided to stop uploading this tutorial until our ruleset has taken a more solid form. I can only apologize to all who have been waiting for the other parts :-(

At the present time, we are still actively developing Pai Sho rules. What you find below is a completely playable (and fun!) rule set, but it is not the final one, for we're still working on that. The variant presented here is a prototype set meant for test playing, and for everyone who can't wait for the final rules.
Apart from that, you will find that the rules presented here will change over time, as we're making development progress. I'm going to inform you about recent changes in the section below.

Recent changes:
  • Added more detailed explanation and example images to the flowers' movement styles in chapter 3.
  • Added chapter 7: Capture.
  • Added an image illustrating the solution to the Capture Quiz in chapter 7.
  • Added chapter 8: Harmony.

Content so far:

1. The Board

2. Intersections

3. The Tiles (part one: Flowers)

4. The Tiles (part two: Elements)

5. The Tiles (part three: Special flowers)

6. The Tiles: Overview

7. Capture

8. Harmony

9. What to do in your turn

10. Winning/The end of the game

11. Notation: Recording a game

    1. Happy to hear that! I'm sorry that I cannot upload the other chapters right now, due to intern discussions. But I will try to convince everyone to allow me continuing here ^_^

    2. Oh, and the rules I'm presenting here are already finished, so if you're looking for rules to play, you can also read the original version here:
      http://lotusgambit.pbworks.com/w/page/49242949/Pai%20Sho%20V1_0

But I figure that one is a little difficult to understand, that's the reason for this tutorial in the first place.

  3. I, too, am excited to see this page! Your rules are much more complete and detailed than most I've seen online. (I must admit, I'm disappointed in Nickelodian for not taking this one and running with it. Probably the only time I'll support capitalism taking advantage of the fan base!) If you are still working on the project and need suggestions, I'd love to help any way I can.

    1. We are indeed still working on it. In fact, the rules here are not only incomplete, but severely out of date already; I stopped updating the tutorial some time ago because the big number of rules changes in our system would have made it difficult to keep this page updated.
      Active development happens here: http://lotusgambit.pbworks.com/w/page/49242949/Pai%20Sho%20V1_0
